Kitten Health Protocol

If you have a new kitten,

please read the following advice on kitten health care!

A)Vaccination

protects against Feline Rhinotracheitis Virus, Feline Calici Virus, Feline Panleukopenia virus and Feline Leukaemia Virus.

1st vaccination at 9 weeks of age

2nd vaccination at 12 weeks of age

Then a booster yearly (one year from the 2nd vaccination).

Go Green!  Feel free to leave an email address for vaccination reminders!

B) Flea prevention – Program  injection ( once every 6 months)

Fleas are a nuisance. Once in your home they are difficult to get rid of. Program injections given every 6 months are an effective way to prevent flea infestations.

If you have an active infestation, we recommend advocate monthly for 3 months to kill fleas and stop the lifecycle. In order to stop fleas you must ensure there are no fleas in the house. We advise the use of indorex spray if you have fleas in your home!!

C) Worm treatment –Milbemax

Milbemax is a broad spectrum wormer. Unlike many wormers purchased over the counter, milbemax is effective in killing all types of kitten and cat worms. It is safe from 6 weeks of age. (For those who struggle with tablets, profender spot on wormer is available).

We advise milbemax treatment once monthly until 6 months of age.

From 6 months old, we advise milbemax every 3 months.

D) Diet – Andersons Kitten Food

Our Andersons kitten food is a high quality, palatable, gluten free hypoallergenic diet.
We aim to provide a well priced high quality diet for your pet.
We advise dry food as a staple diet to promote healthy teeth and good digestive function. Please ask for a sample.
Our adult food comes in chicken and salmon flavours!

E)Spay/Neuter

We recommend to spay/neuter your pet from 6 months of age. Neutering a male cat at an early age will prevent spraying. Spaying a female cat will prevent hormonal uterine infections (pyometra).

F) Microchipping recommended at the time of 2nd vaccination or at time of spay/neuter (whilst they are asleep!)

G) Insurance

When choosing a plan we advise a life cover policy. If your pet falls ill with an ongoing affliction a life cover policy will cover your pet for the whole term of affliction, rather than a year long policy.

Some recommended insurance companies – Agria, Pet plan, Direct line.
